Styles
Window shutters offer incomparable options for the control of light and privacy which cannot be matched by the use of curtains blinds or nets. There are 4 main options:
- Full Height Each panel will extend the full height of the window (subject to a maximum of 1800mm). All louvers move together allowing varying degrees of light in dependant on the width of louver chosen.
- Full Height with Midrail - As above but with the flexibility of opening the upper louvers while the lower ones are kept closed or where the lower section is made up of solid panels.
- Tier on Tier - Two sets of panels are fitted one above the other allowing the option of drawing back the upper set whilst keeping the lower panel either fully or partially closed.
- Café Style - Shutter panels are fitted only to lower part of the window. This option would often be taken where the window is overlooked and constant privacy is required for the lower part only.
- The arrangement chosen does not usually have any effect on the cost of the blind.
Colours
A shade of white is the preferred choice for most shutters but there is an extensive range of various woodstain products available as well as red cedar which can be left in its natural state oiled or laquered. Should there be a requirement for a specific painted colour then Chic can offer any colour in the Dulux or Farrow & Ball range.
Panel Arrangement
When panels are drawn back they may fold back along the wall if space permits, or alternatively will fold concertina style within the reveal of the window. Most windows will have between 2 and 6 separate panels with each panel being between 250mm and 550mm in width. The use of a top track can permit the fitting of shutters to vary large widows of as much as 10 meters wide by 3 meters high. With the use of a tracking system shutters can often be used as a room divider.
Materials
Chic window shutters are manufactured from a range of different timbers from highly durable easily wipable MDF to kiln dried basswood, western red cedar and parasol wood. Our advisors can explain the differences and recommend a suitable system dependant on your exact requirements.

Chic offers a choice of 4 different shutter widths: 47mm, 63mm 89mm and 114mm.
